Three U.S. senators flew to Taiwan on Air Force plane, Chinese netizens called for military action
Last Sunday, June 6, when three U.S. senators paid a three-hour visit to Taiwan from South Korea, not many Americans noticed. But for many in China, it was outrageous provocation.
The three were Sen. Tammy Duckworth of Illinois, Sen. Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Sen. Christopher Coons of Delaware. They were there to deliver the message that the U.S. would donate to Taiwan 750,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine. No problem there. It was the way they got there that enraged the Chinese: on a US Air Force C-17 Globemaster III freighter.
China’s Defense Ministry spokesperson slammed the visit as dangerous and irresponsible, while the Foreign Ministry spokesperson said China strongly opposed it and lodged solemn representations with the U.S. For Weibo users, however, such responses were far from enough. They didn’t hide their anger and sarcasm in their comments, this time targeting their own government.
#China responds to 3 U.S. Senators visiting Taiwan on military aircraft”
Mosaic frustration: China’s Minister to the U.S. Li Kexin said long ago that the day the U.S. warship reaches Gaoxiong would be the moment the PLA would reunify Taiwan. Now the U.S. military aircraft has landed on Taiwan Island, don’t our fighters dare to fly across Taiwan Island? I feel it is time the Central Government made a big move!
Happy spring day: The U.S. has no bottom line in testing us. Evil behavior.
Small Taobao boss brother Xiao Yu: As long as we move our redline back quick enough, the enemy will never step on our redline.
Musketeer Chenchen 2: China hasn’t changed much, still just able to brag and blast with words.
Stubborn Niannian: Just directly announce the inclusion of Taiwan and its surrounding waters in our country’s territorial waters and airspace!
Searching for paradise 40030: What is the use of opposing it? Their military has invaded China. Don’t talk about big chess game. Now the enemy has slapped us, are we going to hit back? Or bear it?
ico who likes the strange Feng: I have always supported our country’s positions and policies. But this time, in terms of China’s official response, I am a little disappointed. If we do not have the determination to reunify Taiwan militarily, or we are not ready in some aspects, then do not talk big, do not say that the day U.S. military planes arrive in Taiwan would be the day to reunify Taiwan militarily. When we were just about to get excited, we got slapped.
Loving world’s delicious: Finding the comments under this hashtag strange. There seems to be a group of people with red eyes and hoarse voice screaming “open fire,” and as if without “opening fire,” we would be doomed and be looked down, while another group is complaining how we are useless and weak. Easy life really turns out foolish people.
Go with trend and advantageous wind: Pressure is motivation. March on with a heaven burden and bear with it for just a few more years! Then, new aircraft carriers, new stealth bombers, new engines 20, new stealth warships would all be ready. Not fighting now is the upper strategy!
Pipi passerby: What is the big difference of this and a warship calling at port? Military plane has arrived! Time to act.
Straight man with cat: There is always a small group of people who can’t wait to see chaos under the heaven, and they grab on the Editor Hu Xijin’s words to boo. They are disgusting, unable to be patriotic rationally, just know how to scream. If war really started, they might be traitors. Beware of such people.
ID to be recommended: Again and again, they challenge the bottom line. Again and again, we oppose it and condemn it, in news broadcast every day. Why so scared?
Outsider working in Hainan: So that’s how useful everyday verbal protesting was. How about just act sure and swift and reunify Taiwan with military force. Is the People’s Liberation Army good for nothing? American military already entered Taiwan. Are we still a sovereign country?
Oh oh oh my little ancestor Buddha: Seriously protesting it, resolutely opposing it. Others are long tired of hearing about it. We ourselves are tired of listening to it. Small on punishment, big on admonition. Not even any small punishment. Why didn’t we intercept the U.S. military plane entering Taiwan? Or even shadow it into Taiwan? Is our intelligence so poor? Or do some people have osteoporosis?
Moon curse -Ying Yang: Never be fooled by the U.S. Otherwise, we could have reunified already.
Yuanxi beast: The U.S. is probably waiting to fight a war to absorb their domestic inflation!
Yu mountain and Zhen valley: I think we should get out of the rut of this issue. When it is time to act, it must be like a sudden thunder with no time to cover one’s ears.
National decent college student: You understand nothing. This is playing big chess. Our side is witty with our redline, making the U.S. retreat with nothing to gain. No problem. We can draw another redline.
Monkey fishing for moon: Today they came on military plane saying they were delivering vaccines. Tomorrow, they can carry a plane load of military supplies, or even a nuclear bomb to Taiwan.
Not changing name until all imperials die: Their military plane has already touched down, yet you only dare to fly on the outskirt.
A hammer for you slo: China’s protest is not effective. They will come again… Heard and seen too much about how we oppose it. I don’t even want to hear it anymore.
123 want to see you want to see you want to see you: Some people just want us to go to war with the U.S. So, if the war really broke out, are you able to carry a gun to the battlefield?
North hall fragrant scholar: Taiwan is only a bargaining chip that can be traded on the table at any time. When necessary, the U.S. will just throw it out. Who will give real gold or silver to protect a chip? It will be abandoned after benefits are gained.
Hamei’s candy: How about we just cancel those beneficial policies for Taiwan, and cut off their supplies of water, electricity, and food.
Student Lin Chen: Where is China’s bottom line, where? Where is our national character and dignity, where? China’s military planes fly over China’s southeast territory and get scolded every day. The U.S. military plane just landed unrestrained in Taiwan as if over no man’s land, and we do not react in any way. Really a joke.
Lake and pine mountain: Protesting for one hundred times is no better than a bomber flapping its wings once! -- Putin
Good to just learn: The U.S. once again tested China’s redline, not expecting that China quietly moved the redline back a little, so they didn’t touch it, and we won again.
Residual thoughts of life as illusion: Military plane already flew over. In a couple years, when their warships come for real, would we be able to fight? Recovering Taiwan is more and more like a slogan only. Reunification of the motherland is a weighty task on a long road.
Substitute army brother: This time it was three U.S. senators flying into Taiwan on a military aircraft. Next time, would it be Biden visiting Taiwan on his Air Force One? If we are to recover Taiwan, no matter by peaceful means or military force, the U.S. will always be a hurdle. Military conflict between the two countries is unavoidable. Better fight sooner than later.
Paul Zhang Sy: Reunification by force!
