With Taliban takeover of Afghanistan faster than expected, Chinese netizens say U.S. collapsing sooner than expected

With the sudden fall of Afghanistan, China’s media had a field day. Xinhua declared “The fall of Kabul rings death knell of American hegemony” and that it marked America’s failure of its twenty-year war, the collapse of its international reputation, and the last twilight of its empire. Global Times chimed in with its editorial “U.S. stumbles as Afghan situation cycled in 20 years,” stating that this defeat was a clearer demonstration of U.S. impotence than the Vietnam War and that the U.S. was indeed a “paper tiger.” China Daily ran a cartoon called “U.S. abandons Afghanistan!” depicting a Statue of Liberty-like plane in the air with people falling off.

With the Taliban taking over, Secretary of State Blinken called Wang Yi, the Chinese Foreign Minister, informing him of the developments in Afghanistan. Wang, however, took the opportunity to teach his counterpart, “…it is difficult to gain a foothold in a country with a completely different history, culture and national conditions by mechanically copying foreign models.”

For micro-bloggers on Weibo, the chaotic and tragic images from the Kabul airport gave them yet another chance, far grander than any before, to taunt the U.S.

#Biden admits Afghan collapsed faster than expected#

Little trumpet of masses:  Taliban’s speed is beyond imagination!  The U.S. is suffering an embarrassing end. Biden never could have expected this.
